Explore Community Living: Cohousing Tours

Join us for immersive tours to visit thriving cohousing communities across the Seattle region. Each tour showcases a different set of communities—from urban, walkable cohousing in the heart of the city to island  communities rooted in nature and connection. You’ll hear directly from residents, tour shared spaces and homes, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how these communities were created and sustained.

Select tours include lunch or a shared meal hosted at one of the communities we visit—making it a wonderful opportunity to connect, ask questions, and experience cohousing firsthand. Choose one tour or join multiple to explore the full diversity of cohousing in the Pacific Northwest.

Thursday, May 14 (2:30pm – 7:30pm) — Vashon Island Communities + Dinner

Travel to Vashon Island to visit Vashon Island Cohousing, a well-established community with more than 30 years of lived experience. Hear from long-time residents about what it takes to sustain community over time, and explore shared spaces and neighborhood design that support daily connection. The tour concludes with a memorable farm-to-table dinner hosted at the community.

Friday, May 15 (approx. 9:00am – 5:00pm) — Seattle Area Communities Tour

Explore a range of Seattle cohousing communities on this guided tour through both established and evolving neighborhoods. The day begins at West Emerald Cohousing (formerly Duwamish Cohousing), a community designed with environmental consciousness, featuring native landscaping, edible gardens, and sustainable water and energy systems.

From there, you’ll visit Puget Ridge Cohousing, an intergenerational community with a long history and a partnership with a local community land trust, where lunch will be hosted, and Jackson Place Cohousing, known for its vibrant shared spaces and strong culture of connection. The tour concludes at Capitol Hill Urban Cohousing (CHUC), a nationally recognized example of dense, urban cohousing in the heart of the city.

Along the way, you’ll hear directly from residents, explore common houses and shared spaces, and see how different communities bring connection to life in practice.

Sunday, May 17 (approx. 9:00am – 5:00pm) — Pacific Northwest Communities Tour

Sponsored by renowned cohousing architects Caddis Collaborative, this tour doubles as a workshop on wheels, with insights from Bryan Bowen and the Caddis team woven throughout the day. We’ll depart from Cal Anderson Park in Capitol Hill and head north, with guided commentary along the way on designing for connection and what makes communities thrive.

The first stop is Bellingham Cohousing, where you’ll hear directly from residents and experience a well-established community in action. From there, we’ll travel to Skagit Commons in Anacortes for a hosted lunch and tour, offering a look at another vibrant, resident-led neighborhood. The day concludes at Crow Woods, an award-winning 9-home community created through ADU legislation, known for its innovative design and strong sense of connection.

Throughout the journey, you’ll gain practical insights, see a range of community models, and explore how thoughtful design shapes everyday life in cohousing.

Sunday, May 17 (9:00am – 2:00pm) — Bainbridge Island Walking Tour + Lunch

Enjoy a half-day walking tour centered in Bainbridge Island, featuring Winslow Cohousing and a neighboring cottage community. This tour offers a great opportunity to explore cohousing on a smaller footprint, see how design supports connection in a walkable setting, and hear from residents about day-to-day life in community. (Registration closes April 8)

Please note: Refunds (minus a 10% service fee) will be available on bus tour ticket cancellations until April 30. Cancellations made on or after May 1, 2026 will not be refunded.
