Explore Community Living: Cohousing Bus Tours

Join us for immersive bus tours to visit thriving cohousing communities across the Sacramento and Sierra Nevada regions. Each day will showcase a different set of communities—ranging from pioneering retrofit neighborhoods to newer multigenerational and senior-focused models. You’ll hear directly from residents, tour shared spaces and homes, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how these communities were created and sustained.

Lunch is provided on the tours and hosted at one of the communities we visit, making it a great opportunity to connect and experience cohousing firsthand. Choose one tour or come along for both to see the full diversity of what cohousing can be.

October 31 – Sacramento & Davis Area Tour

On this tour, you’ll visit several foundational communities that helped shape cohousing in the U.S. We’ll begin at Southside Park Cohousing, a vibrant urban community in Sacramento. Then we’ll head to Washington Commons Cohousing, a newly completed urban infill project in West Sacramento. From there, we’ll travel to Davis to explore Muir Commons, the first cohousing community built in North America, followed by a walk through N Street Cohousing, an innovative retrofit neighborhood where individual homes became a connected, cooperative community.

November 1 – Sierra Foothills Tour

This day trip will take us to scenic cohousing communities nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills. We’ll start at Fair Oaks EcoHousing, a multigenerational community that blends sustainability and connection just outside of Sacramento. Then we’ll visit Wolf Creek Lodge, a senior cohousing community in Grass Valley designed for aging in community. We’ll end the day in historic Nevada City at Nevada City Cohousing, a long-standing intergenerational neighborhood known for its strong social fabric and natural beauty.
