Bio

Susan Gee Rumsey, a life-long San Francisco Bay Area native, knew nothing about cohousing when she and her husband, John Gee, moved from California to Washington in 2020, during the pandemic shutdown. But back in 2012, early in her retirement as an editor for the University of California, she had spent a week at Findhorn in Scotland, where she fell in love with that now 64-year-old intentional community, both in concept and in practice. So, when she learned that a new intentional community, 4th Corner Commons, was being formed in Bellingham, she was already primed to participate in cohousing. She signed up in early 2025. Now, over a year later, the 4th Corner Commons cohousing project continues in its development, with move-in several years away. Nevertheless, this nascent community is already coming together through circle meetings, Sociocracy training sessions, social events, and, of course, a multitude of group decisions about their eventual physical home. Taking part in this effort has been a major change for a retired person in her seventies, but it is also proving to be the adventure of a lifetime, well worth her total commitment.
