Monica Bhatia is a PhD Candidate in Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research specializes in social inequality and environmental justice in intentional communities. She is currently working on her dissertation which is a comparison of three intentional communities: a cohousing communities, a housing cooperative, and a common. In her dissertation, she considers how each of these communities put their ideals of social equity and sustainability into practice, the barriers to achieving these goals, and lessons for society as a whole.
