Bio

A lifelong adventurer and craftsman, my career path has been varied. I have retired from roles as a ship’s captain, commercial fisherman, ski instructor, general contractor, and master cabinet maker. Since moving to Seattle in 2010—my first true urban experience since college—I have balanced a love for the Pacific Northwest with a deep affinity for the American Southwest. When we aren’t at home, my wife and I are often traveling and camping in our van, exploring the rugged beauty of the desert. While in Arizona, I volunteer with the Samaritans providing humanitarian aid at the border. A lifelong builder, my wife and I have personally constructed or remodeled four houses together. Though I describe myself as a “reluctant gardener who loves his yard,” I am an enthusiastic woodturner and furniture maker, finding peace in the precision of the workshop. I am also an avid golfer who enjoys the challenge of playing and rating courses across the state. I am a dedicated grandfather to four, and I cherish every moment spent with them. I remain most at home when I am creating something with my hands or exploring the Great Outdoors.
