Introductions
Posted by Carolyn Pruitt on January 22, 2024 at 2:12 pmThe conference doesn’t start until August, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get to know each other first. Reply to this post and let us know a little about you – what community you’re with, what you’re most excited about when it comes to the conference, your experience in cohousing. Whatever you want to share, we want to hear about it!

Hi there,
I am Abhishek, a construction manager with 10 years of experience as a project manager on large projects. I came across CoHousing due to my interest in helping build communities around me and be part of the process. This is my first conference and I am excited to meet everyone and specifically connect with Developers/Architects/Contractors that can provide insight into their experience.
I am flying in from SFO so always happy to connect to folks that are local to bay area/California.

Hi Abhishek,
Nice to meet you. This will be my 2nd conference. I went to the one in Portland before the pandemic. I live at Wasatch Commons Cohousing in Salt Lake City UT. We are taking the train from SLC, Utah to Denver for the conference. Grae Wason grew up in cohousing and is presenting on Saturday morning. Maybe you will attend the session. I’m the proud mom! Oh, we are now renting in a cohousing for the month of July in the Bay Area. We are at Pleasant Hill cohousing. That is another cool think about cohousing. You can exchange houses and rent in other cohousing communities.

I’m Melissa Van Kirk and I live in the Oak Creek Community in Stillwater, OK. I’m looking forward to my first cohousing conference and especially learning how other cohousing communities enhance participation and bring creative solutions to common challenges.

I am Judy Cantwell from GrassRoutes Cohousing in Guelph Ontario, just west of Toronto. We have land, rezoning approved, and are meeting with architects at this point. I hope to go on visits to local communities with you!

Hi! I’m Emma Sutton, an architectural designer turned project manager and database design consultant. I’m excited to be attending the upcoming conference to get to know others in the industry, learn best practices, and hear about the exciting projects taking shape. I’m currently working on two cohousing projects that are nearing construction and I’ll be particularly interested in learning about how to establish sustainable social structures to ensure that these new villages are set up for long-term success.
If you want to chat at or ahead of the conference, I’m always excited to meet fellow co-housers!

Hi all! I’m Lisa, a member of Blue Columbine, a new cohousing community forming in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. We have land and designs and city approvals, and need more members to move forward with construction. Look forward to learning a lot at the Conference! And sharing info with any folks interested in communal living in the Denver metro area. (bluecolumbinecohousing.com)

Hi Lisa,
I looked at your communities website. Exciting! I live at Wasatch Commons Cohousing in Salt Lake City UT- also in the Mountain West! We are taking the train from SLC, Utah to Denver for the conference. Grae Wason grew up in cohousing and is presenting on Saturday morning. Maybe you will attend the session. I’m the proud mom!

I am Liz Ryan Cole and looking forward to my 4th (or 5th?) conference. I am a member of a group that bought 120 acres on a pond on which to build a cohousing neighborhood, but ran into zoning problems (we have a new approach to our zoning challenge in the works) and in the meantime are developing community with our 101-year-old cabin rental project (LochLymeLodge.com). We are near Hanover, NH and love visitors and potential members.
